Virtual Ride-Alongs for Auto Dealerships
Coach every floor conversation and test drive without riding along, then let salespeople practice what they missed with AI roleplay.

What is a virtual ride-along?
A virtual ride-along for an auto dealership is a sales manager's review of a salesperson's floor conversation or test drive, recorded on the salesperson's phone after everyone present agrees, so the manager can coach without being there. With Itero (iteroapp.ai), salespeople record in the Itero mobile app, each conversation is scored against the dealership's own scorecard in about two minutes, and they practice what it exposes with AI roleplay in the same app.
How it works on the lot
- Step 1
Confirm consent
Recording can't start until the salesperson confirms everyone present agreed, and Itero keeps a timestamped record. The app never records automatically.
- Step 2
Record with one tap
Salespeople record the meet-and-greet, the walkaround or the test drive. Recording keeps going if the screen locks or a call comes in.
- Step 3
Scored in about two minutes
Each conversation is scored against the steps your managers teach, from the greeting to asking for the sale, with a recap, the transcript and a drafted follow-up to send by email, text or WhatsApp.
- Step 4
Practice the misses
Salespeople rehearse objections such as "I can get a better price across town" with AI roleplay, scored on the same scorecard as their recorded conversations.
Record the Floor and the Test Drive, Consent First
The salesperson taps record in the Itero mobile app at the meet-and-greet, on the lot or before the test drive.
- •Recording can't start until the salesperson confirms everyone present agreed
- •Dismissing the consent prompt counts as no, so it can't be skipped
- •Itero stores how and when consent was given with every recording
- •Recording keeps going when the screen locks, the salesperson switches apps or a phone call comes in

Every Conversation Scored Against Your Road to the Sale
Build a scorecard for the steps your dealership teaches, from the greeting and needs discovery to the walkaround, test drive, trade-in discussion and close. About two minutes after the salesperson stops recording, the salesperson and manager have:
- •A recap of what went well and what to work on
- •A score with a criterion-by-criterion breakdown
- •The full transcript, with each speaker labeled
- •A drafted follow-up to edit and send by email, text or WhatsApp

Coach the Whole Floor From Your Phone
Sales managers review every recorded conversation on their phone and filter by salesperson. They can ask Itero questions about any conversation, such as which objections came up or whether the salesperson asked for the sale.
A traditional ride-along covers one salesperson on one shift. A virtual ride-along covers every conversation a salesperson records, scored the same way every time.

Practice the Objections Before the Next Customer
AI roleplay is in the same app. Managers assign scenarios for the skills a ride-along exposed, and salespeople can pick any scenario from the dealership's library.
- •Rehearse price, trade-in value, monthly payment and "just looking" objections
- •Practice is scored on the same scorecards as recorded conversations
- •New salespeople can run practice conversations before they take their first customer

BDC phone calls are scored on the same scorecards, so floor and BDC teams are coached the same way.

Consent rules by state
Some states let one participant consent for everyone; others require everyone's agreement. Itero's recording consent guide quotes each covered state's statute.

How does a virtual ride-along work at a dealership?
- Before the conversation: the salesperson opens the Itero mobile app and confirms that everyone present agreed to be recorded.
- On the floor and the test drive: one tap starts recording, and it keeps going if the screen locks or a call comes in.
- About two minutes after it ends: Itero scores the conversation against your dealership's scorecard and returns a recap, the transcript and a drafted follow-up.
- Coaching: the sales manager reviews it on their phone and assigns AI roleplay for the step that slipped (AI Roleplay).
- The next conversation: the next recording shows whether the practice stuck.
BDC phone calls can be scored on the same scorecards through Microsoft Teams, Five9, Gong, Outreach, FrontSpin or the public API, so floor and phone teams are coached the same way (QA Scorecards).
Do you need consent to record dealership conversations?
Consent rules vary by state. Some states let one participant consent for everyone; others require everyone's agreement, or require it only in certain conditions, such as a private conversation.
Itero handles its part the same way everywhere: recording can't start until the salesperson confirms everyone present agreed, and Itero keeps a timestamped record of that consent.
Itero's recording consent guide quotes each covered state's statute, including California, Texas, Florida, New York, Pennsylvania and Illinois. This is general information, not legal advice; check with your own counsel about the states where you sell.
How does Itero compare with other ride-along tools for dealerships?
Best for teams that value a mobile-first experience and want live call scoring and role play in one solution. For dealerships, Itero pairs consent before every recording with AI roleplay and live-call scoring on the same scorecards, in one app (Virtual Ride-Alongs).
Other virtual ride-along tools also list automotive teams: Rilla lists automotive on its homepage, and Siro lists dealerships, as of October 2026. See Itero vs Rilla and Rilla alternatives for sourced, side-by-side comparisons.

Frequently Asked Questions
Virtual Ride-Alongs at the Dealership
What is a virtual ride-along for a car dealership?
It's a sales manager's review of a salesperson's floor conversation or test drive, recorded on the salesperson's phone after everyone present agrees. In the Itero mobile app, the salesperson confirms consent, records with one tap, and the conversation is scored against the dealership's scorecard in about two minutes.
Can salespeople record test drives?
Yes, once the salesperson confirms that everyone in the car agreed. Recording starts with one tap and keeps going if the screen locks or a call comes in. Consent rules vary by state, so check the rules where you sell; this is general information, not legal advice.
What does the sales manager see?
The recap, scorecard, transcript and drafted follow-up for each conversation, minutes after the salesperson stops recording. Managers review the whole floor from their phone, filter by salesperson, and can ask Itero questions about any conversation.
Can BDC phone calls be scored too?
Yes. The same scorecards score phone calls from Microsoft Teams, Five9, Gong, Outreach, FrontSpin or the public API, so floor and BDC teams are coached the same way.
Consent & Privacy
Is it legal to record conversations with customers at a dealership?
This is general information, not legal advice. Consent rules vary by state: some let one participant consent, and others require everyone's agreement in some or all conditions. Itero's recording consent guide quotes each covered state's statute. Itero won't start a recording until the salesperson confirms everyone present agreed, and it stores how and when consent was given.
What happens to the audio?
Itero transcribes and scores it, and the audio is deleted from the phone 48 hours after upload. Itero's transcription provider doesn't train on your audio, and Itero is SOC 2 Type 1 attested.
App, Practice & Limits
Which phones does the mobile app work on?
iPhone (iOS 16 or later) and Android phones. Salespeople download the Itero mobile app from the App Store or Google Play and sign in with the Itero account their dealership provides. A network connection is needed to upload and score recordings.
How do salespeople practice what a ride-along uncovers?
With AI roleplay in the same app. Managers assign scenarios for the skills a ride-along exposed, or salespeople pick from the dealership's library, and practice is scored on the same scorecards as recorded conversations.
What doesn't Itero do yet?
It doesn't coach salespeople live during a conversation, and the mobile app is in English only. Itero pulls meetings and contacts from HubSpot and Zoho, but it doesn't push notes or scores back to a CRM natively yet; fields Itero extracts from calls can be sent to HubSpot or any CRM by webhook through Call Data Capture.
