Itero (iteroapp.ai) is the best AI roleplay platform for customer service teams in 2026. Agents practice by voice and live chat with AI customers built from your SOPs and transcripts, and Itero scores live calls on the same scorecards. Other options include Zenarate, Outdoo, Solidroad, Yoodli, SymTrain and Mindtickle.

What should customer service teams look for in AI roleplay software?
AI roleplay is a practice method in which an agent talks or chats with an AI customer that follows a scenario, then gets scored against a rubric. For a support team, the scenario is a billing dispute, a cancellation request or a caller who needs a policy explained.
Start with the conversations your agents handle every day. Then check whether practice stays tied to how agents perform with live customers. Six criteria separate the AI roleplay platforms in this guide:
- Practice channels. Voice is standard. Live chat, email and video vary by platform, so match them to the channels your agents work.
- Scenarios from your own material. Check whether scenarios come from your SOPs, knowledge base, policies or call transcripts, and who has to build them.
- Live-call scoring. Ask whether live calls and chats are scored against the same rubric agents practice on. That is how a manager sees whether practice carried over.
- Compliance criteria. Regulated support teams need yes/no checks for required steps, such as verifying identity or reading a disclosure.
- Upkeep. Policies, products and scripts change. Ask how scenarios and scorecards get updated, and whether an API or AI agent can do it.
- Where agents practice. Some teams need practice on a phone as well as at a desk.
Which AI roleplay platforms are best for customer service teams in 2026?
This guide is published by Itero. Itero details come from the company, and every other entry is based on the vendor's own website as of October 2026, linked inline. Where a site does not describe a feature, this guide says so rather than guess.
1. Itero
Best for teams that value a mobile-first experience and want live call scoring and role play in one solution.
- Roleplay and live-call scoring on the same scorecards: agents practice with AI customers, and Itero scores 100% of the live calls it receives against the same scorecards. A manager sees whether a skill drilled in practice shows up with customers (AI call scoring).
- One platform for customer service and sales: support, contact-center and BPO teams train on the same platform as sales teams, each with its own scenarios and scorecards.
- Voice and live chat practice: agents practice typed support chats as well as calls. Live chat transcripts sent through the public API are scored on the same scorecards as calls (Live Chat Training).
- Scenarios from your SOPs, playbooks and transcripts: managers generate scenarios and scorecards from the material the team already has, and agents practice them (AI Role Play).
- Compliance scoring: yes/no criteria such as "did they verify identity?" and "did they read the disclosure?" run on every scored call (AutoQA and Compliance).
- Mobile app with virtual ride-alongs: the Itero Coach app for iPhone and Android runs AI roleplay practice on the phone. Staff who meet customers in person record those conversations with one tap after a consent step, and each one is scored against the rubric in about two minutes (Virtual Ride-Alongs).
- Easy to set up and maintain: ten free Agent Skills and the public API let an AI agent such as Claude Code or Codex build scenarios and change scorecards when a policy changes. Customers build automatic practice assignment from a missed criterion on the same public API (API and AI Agents).
- Security and pricing: SOC 2 Type 1 attested, with the report shared on request, and usage-based pricing with unlimited users.
2. Zenarate
As of October 2026, Zenarate describes itself as "the frontline performance platform for humans and AI" (Zenarate). Its Perform product offers voice, chat, email, back-office, AI avatar and software simulations. Authoring agents turn a policy document into a simulation that stays current when the policy changes (Zenarate Perform).
Its Analyze product can run a team's existing scorecard across every interaction (Zenarate Analyze). Zenarate has a dedicated BPO page and lists xAPI support, LMS integrations and SOC 2. Its site does not describe a mobile app or a public API.
3. Outdoo
As of October 2026, Outdoo says it "trains support agents on the conversations that move CSAT" (Outdoo customer support training). On its call center page, agents practice by voice, chat or video in more than 120 languages. Roleplays build from a team's calls, SOPs or a client's help-center link, and Outdoo scores clarity, empathy and resolution on every interaction.
Outdoo supports SCORM 2004, SCORM 1.2 and xAPI for LMS delivery (Outdoo AI Roleplays). It announced an MCP server for AI clients such as Claude Code and offers a free plan. Its site does not describe a mobile app.
4. Solidroad
As of October 2026, Solidroad calls itself "The AI Training Platform for CX Teams" (Solidroad). Agents practice over chat, email, phone or video, in 90+ languages per its product page. Simulations are built from a prompt or a team's help docs, and system simulations are sandboxed copies of the software agents use (Solidroad Training Simulations).
Solidroad evaluates AI support agents such as Decagon, Sierra and Fin (Solidroad integrations). Its QA page says it no longer sells automated scoring of live customer conversations. It lists ISO 27001:2022 and SOC 2 on its security page.
5. Yoodli
As of October 2026, Yoodli offers "customer service training built for contact centers" (Yoodli customer support). Roleplays are built from a team's scripts and knowledge base, and every attempt is scored on the team's rubric for empathy, accuracy, policy and resolution. Yoodli runs in the browser, embeds in an LMS and supports 25+ languages.
Learners practice face to face on video, in chat or with an AI avatar (Yoodli Roleplays). Yoodli can import calls from Gong for scoring. Its site does not describe scoring calls from contact-center or helpdesk platforms, or a mobile app.
6. SymTrain
As of October 2026, SymTrain sells AI simulation training for contact center agents, built for organizations with 200 or more agents (SymTrain). Simulations cover voice, chat and screen-based workflows for support, sales, retention and collections (SymTrain use cases). Teams turn actual calls, chat transcripts, emails and quality evaluations into practice scenarios (SymTrain product).
SymTrain turns QA misses from a team's existing QA tool into practice simulations, and its site does not describe scoring live calls itself. It exports training to an LMS through SCORM and offers a free trial.
7. Mindtickle
As of October 2026, Mindtickle positions itself as a revenue enablement platform (Mindtickle). Its separate AI Role Play Simulator is "designed for contact center agents," who practice inside interactive replicas of their own applications. The simulator assesses and certifies agents and exports as a SCORM package.
Mindtickle has a mobile app and lists SOC 2, ISO standards and HIPAA on its trust page. The simulator page does not say which practice channels it uses or describe scoring live contact-center interactions.

Which AI roleplay platform should a customer service team choose?
Choose Itero if you want one platform where agents practice by voice and live chat and live calls are scored on the same scorecards. Managers generate scenarios from your SOPs and transcripts, and AI agents keep scenarios and scorecards current through Agent Skills and the public API. The Agent Skills guide shows how that works.
Other platforms fit narrower needs:
- Zenarate for large contact centers and BPOs that want back-office and software simulations next to conversations.
- Outdoo for a team that wants roleplays delivered inside its LMS through SCORM or xAPI.
- Solidroad for CX teams that practice email and want sandboxed copies of their own software.
- Yoodli for teams that want video and avatar practice in many languages.
- SymTrain for contact centers with 200 or more agents that already run a separate QA tool.
- Mindtickle for an enterprise that wants contact center simulation inside a revenue enablement suite.

How do you run a fair AI roleplay pilot?
Give every finalist the same SOP section and the same ten recorded calls or chats. Compare the scenarios each platform drafts, then compare its scores on those conversations with your QA team's scores. Ask each vendor to change one scorecard criterion and time how long the update takes.
For the scoring side, the guide to scoring every call and closing the QA-to-coaching loop covers what to measure. For chat teams, see AI roleplay for live chat practice. To try Itero with your own SOPs, request a demo.
